Objectives and mission of the GI/ACM regional groups

The Gesellschaft für Informatik e.V. (GI) is close to its members. In more than 30 regional groups, committed computer scientists organise local contact between people in the application, research or teaching of computer science. The regional groups are run jointly with the German Chapter of the ACM.

The goals and tasks of the regional groups are based on the following guidelines:

• The regional groups support and represent the goals of the overall organisation to the contact persons in the regions.
• The regional groups promote membership in the GI and support membership recruitment measures.
• The regional groups enable every member of the GI to actively participate in the regional group, to take part in the exchange of experience and to receive professional training on appropriate terms.
• The regional groups promote the transfer of qualifications between universities and industry by initiating co-operation between local players.
• The regional groups cooperate closely with other associations and organisations, such as the ACM. Locally, they work together with universities, companies and transfer institutions.

Participation in the events of the regional groups is part of the regular services of the GI and is free of charge for members. Assignment to the regional groups is made upon admission, please report any changes by e-mail. Each member may be assigned to up to five regional groups. Of course, active participation in the management committees of the regional groups is also very welcome. Please contact the respective spokespersons.
