HTW Berlin präsentiert innovative Forschung zur nachhaltigen Softwareentwicklung bei EnviroInfo 2025

At the EnviroInfo 2025 held at the Hasso Plattner Institute in Potsdam, students from Prof. Volker Wohlgemuth's working group at the Berlin University of Applied Sciences (HTW Berlin) presented their latest research findings on sustainable software development.

The focus lay on the paper "Resource Efficiency in Software: A Comparative Study of Two Text Editors", presented by Lena Fischer and Marian Messer. The study analyzes the energy consumption and resource efficiency of software applications and was developed as part of the Green Coding course in Business Environmental Informatics in the subject area "Informatics and Sustainability: Current Development Trends".

Furthermore, master's students Christopher Freitag and Lena Fischer presented an innovative concept for a modular training course that offers professionals and aspiring academics practice-oriented further training in green coding principles. The course concept was developed as part of their master's theses and was accompanied by the research project “Unlocking the Potentials of Green Coding”.

Dennis Junger then moderated an interactive workshop with a focus group of industry experts. The participants discussed the concepts presented, provided constructive feedback and valuable input, and thus supported the further development of the training programs at HTW Berlin. This intensive exchange underlines the growing relevance of green coding in professional software development.
