EnviroInfo 2024: Presentation of the First Results from the "Unlocking the Potential of Green Coding into Practice" Project

At EnviroInfo 2024, held from November 12 to 14 at the German University in Cairo, the team from the "Unlocking the Potential of Green Coding into Practice" project presented its initial research findings. The publications focus on key topics related to sustainable software development and Green Coding:

1. "Bridging the Skills Gap: Insights from Professional Software Developers into the Challenges and Opportunities Faced by Young Career Starters Integrating Green Coding into Practice" – by Mr. Junger and Prof. Wohlgemuth.
2. "Sustainability Labels as Green Claims for Software – A Preliminary Investigation" – by Mr. Westing.

These works were presented as part of the Special Track on Green Coding, which highlighted the main challenges and opportunities of integrating sustainable methods into software development.

After the presentations, Prof. Wohlgemuth led an interactive workshop, providing participants with the opportunity to discuss innovative approaches to promoting Green Coding in focus groups. The workshop covered the following topics:

• Labeling Schemes as Tools for Software Sustainability – The role of sustainability labels as guidance for both developers and users.
• Opportunities and Challenges of Integrating Green Coding Methods into Software Engineering Processes – The opportunities and challenges of integrating Green Coding into software development workflows.

The workshop offered valuable insights and fostered the development of new ideas and approaches to further embedding sustainability in software development.
