April 2026: Presentation at GREENS Workshop of the ICSE
In April 2026, Mr. Junger presented the paper „Embedding Green Coding into Management Frameworks – An Integration Outlook“ at the GREENS Workshops of the International Conference on Software Engineering (ICSE). The 2026 GREENS Workshop took place on April 14, in Rio de Janeiro and was part of ICSE 2026.
The paper examines how principles of sustainable software development can be better integrated into existing management and governance frameworks. The focus is on the question of how green coding aspects can be embedded not only at the code level, but also at the organizational and process levels.
Various approaches are considered to expand decision-making structures in software projects accordingly and systematically align them with resource efficiency and sustainability. The workshop program description generally emphasizes the goal of incorporating green principles into the design and operation of software-intensive systems.
This paper was developed as part of the work on the research project “Unlocking the Potentials of Green Coding.” While reviewing and compiling materials for Research Question 3, which focused on the development of a holistic course, a critical gap in previous implementation approaches became apparent. This paper was proactively developed based on this observation.
Thus, the paper provides an impulse for the discussion on how software development can be more strongly oriented toward resource efficiency, green coding principles, and their systematic consideration in decision-making processes in the future.
We thank the Internet Society Foundation for the opportunity to address this issue within the scope of the project and to identify a further research direction based on it.
