 ctober 27 to December 1 Coding da Vinci Rhein-Main, the German open cultura
 l data hackathon, will be coming to Mainz. For five weeks, devoted fans of 
 culture and hacking alike will prototype, code and design to make open cult
 ural data come alive. With its wealth of cultural heritage institutions and
  historical places, Rhine-Main region is now more than ready for this popul
 ar hacking event.\n\n\n\nCoding da Vinci Rhein-Main aims to create new soft
 ware applications from digital collections of all kinds, coming from a wide
  range of cultural institutions all over Rhein-Main area. And the best thin
 g: all those fresh ideas and applications will in turn benefit both culture
  and society, because Open Data Licenses make it possible! Drawing from the
  concepts of OpenData and OpenCulture cross-European cultural heritage is r
 emixed and re-contextualized and in this is made accessible to a wide audie
 nce in a way it has never been before.\n\n\n\nAt the beginning of Coding da
  Vinci Rhein-Main, teams form at our Kick Off on October 27 and 28, 2018, t
 aking place at “Alte Mensa” at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, and sta
 rt sketching their ideas based on data provided by different cultural herit
 age institutions. Within the following five-week code sprint teams work out
  prototypes and ready-for-use applications. The most exciting applications 
 that emerge from our hackathon will finally be awarded in various categorie
 s on December 1, 2018 at Landesmuseum Mainz.\n\n\n\nOver the past four year
 s, more than 400 Coding da Vinci participants have developed about 70 digit
 al applications, using over 100 data sets from 99 cultural heritage and res
 earch institutions. All those projects are characterized by great diversity
  of ideas and high technical expertise, ranging from mobile apps and websit
 es to interactive installations, augmented reality applications and even ha
 rdware prototypes.\n\n\n\nCoding da Vinci Rhein-Main is a joint project of
