SUMMARY:Languages & the Media 2020 13th International Conference on Languag
 e Transfer in Audiovisual Media
DESCRIPTION:The 2020 edition of Languages & the Media, the 13th Internation
al Conference on Language Transfer in Audiovisual Media, will be riding the
wave of recent trends that are fast becoming reality in audiovisual locali
sation.\n\nNew working conditions are rolling in faster than ever before. I
nnovation is the order of the day. The industry is consolidating while new
entrants are disrupting the conventional workplace. Platforms are prolifera
ting. Immersive environments are becoming more pervasive. New workflows are
emerging. Concurrent translation and post-editing are gaining ground. Lang
uage tools are being integrated and experimentation and reinvention abound.
\n\nThe need for research has never been greater. With the validity of olde
r norms and standards under scrutiny, new models of good practice are emerg
ing, forcing the audiovisual localisation industry to take stock and re-exa
mine audience needs. Legislation and regulation are also whipping up the wi
nd of change. As our 2018 keynote speaker David Padmore pointed out, our sh
ared goal is to break down language and sensory barriers to audiovisual con
tent that educates, informs and entertains the world. To achieve this, all
stakeholders must come together and collaborate to address our industry’s c
hallenges with responsible, comprehensive and fair strategies. And what bet
ter place to do this than at the 13th Languages & the Media International C
onference which will be held at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Berlin from Decem
 ber 14 – 16, 2020 under the overall theme “Riding the Wave”.\n\n- - - - -\n
\nThroughout its 25-year long history, Languages & the Media has establishe
d itself as Europe’s leading conference in the AVT industry and is a vibran
t hub for exchange, learning and discussion. At the Languages & the Media 2
020, broadcasters, OTT platforms, language service providers, researchers,
trainers, professionals, practitioners and all those who produce, market or
distribute audiovisual content for information, entertainment or education
al purposes will come together to address issues on how to thrive in this d
 ynamic mediascape.\n\nContact:\n\nMs Silvia Surian\n\ninfo@languages-media.
