SUMMARY:ITeG-Ringvorlesung "Assisting Consumers in Virtual Reality Shopping
: Opportunities and Challenges of AI Integration"
DESCRIPTION:In der ITeG-Ringvorlesung "Digitale Gesellschaft - eine Gestalt
ungsaufgabe" wird  Prof. Dr. Jella Pfeiffer Einblicke geben zum Thema "Assi
sting Consumers in Virtual Reality Shopping: Opportunities and Challenges o
in Vancouver.
, Journal of Management Information Systems, Journal of the Association of
Information Systems und European Journal of Operational Resesarch veröffent
licht.\n\n\n\nZusammenfassung ihres Vortrags:\n\nWhen making purchase decis
ions, consumers often feel overwhelmed and desire assistance to support the
ir decision-making process. In traditional e-commerce, this is typically ac
hieved through simple interactive tools such as filters and sorting mechani
sms, or recommender systems, and chatbots. With the emergence of the metave
rse, shopping might soon take place in a new environment—virtual reality. B
eyond the consumer data we know from e-commerce platforms, virtual reality
provides access to much more data, including eye-tracking, body orientation
, and movements, which are essential for creating immersive 3D worlds. This
abundance of real-time data necessitates AI-based assistance systems. This
talk will provide an overview of various research projects that explore th
e possibilities, but also challenges and threats related to data privacy an
d trustworthy AI in this context.
