DESCRIPTION:In the ITeG lecture series "Digital Society - a Design Challeng
 e", Prof. Dr. Irene Bertschek will provide insights on “Digitalisation – A 
 Vaccine for the Economy” on October 27, 2021.\n\nAbstract:\n\nWhat are digi
 tal technologies and what makes them so revolutionary? This talk gives an o
 verview about the features of digital technologies, their stage of diffusio
 n and the changes they initiate in the economy. It is argued that digitalis
 ation is a powerful asset for companies, enabling them to become more innov
 ative and productive as well as making them resilient in times of crises. T
 his resilience is then further scrutinised to include other contributing as
 pects, not only technological ones.\n\nLecturer:\n\nProf. Dr. Irene Bertsch
 ek is head of the ZEW Research Department “Digital Economy” and professor o
 f economics of digitalisation at Justus Liebig University Giessen. In May 2
 019, she was appointed as a member of the Commission of Experts for Researc
 h and Innovation (EFI), advising the Federal German government.\n\nIrene Be
 rtschek studied economics at the University of Mannheim and at the Universi
 té catholique de LouvainLouvain-la-Neuve, Belgium, focusing on industrial e
 conomics and econometrics. She attended the European Doctoral Program and o
 btained a doctoral degree in economics from the Université catholique de Lo
 uvain. In her research, she investigates how digitalisation changes economi
 c processes and how it affects firms’ labour productivity and innovation ac
 tivity. Her methodological expertise lies in the field of microeconometrics
  and the analysis of firm-level data.\n\n\n\nThe lectures take place online
