 he International Semantic Web Research School (ISWS) is a full immersion, s
 uper intensive one-week experience including lectures and keynotes from out
 standing speakers, a “learning by doing” teamwork program on open research 
 problems, under the guidance of the best scientists in the field, with whom
  you will co-author a white paper of high potential impact. ISWS means netw
 orking and becoming friends with your peers as well as senior scientists, a
 nd having lots of fun with them. At ISWS we shape the future generation of 
 semantic web researchers with creativity, methodology, fun and rigour.\n\n\
 n\nISWS provides a perfect experience for young scientists and researchers,
  working in both academia and industry, who want to learn about cutting edg
 e technologies and novel research achievements at the crossing point betwee
 n Artificial Intelligence and the Semantic Web.. The school inherits the su
 ccessful pedagogic principles and the lessons learned from previous experie
 nces and is a prominent reference school for the best young researchers, Ph
 D, and master students of the Semantic Web community.\n\n\n\nISWS takes pla
 ce in the beautiful location of Bertinoro, a small village near Bologna in 
 Italy and relies on the organisation of its directors Valentina Presutti fr
 om University of Bologna and Harald Sack from FIZ Karlsruhe and KIT. ISWS i
 s focused on research and its program includes lectures, invited talks, pos
 ter sessions, team working, and an exciting social program. All tutors and 
 speakers of the school are renowned members of the Semantic Web community a
 nd beyond. Students work very hard for a whole week and experience all main
  activities that a researcher faces during her/his career such as team work
 ing, problem and state of the art analysis, development of novel methods, w
 riting of research articles and reports, presenting a research result, and 
 also defending a thesis. ISWS combines the format of a research camp with l
 ectures and keynote talks. To facilitate an early exchange of ideas and men
 toring opportunity, a poster session will also take place, where attendees 
 will have the chance to present their work and obtain feedback on their res
 earch.\n\n\n\nThe school is an exceptional opportunity for networking: all 
 tutors stay and constantly interact with the students for the whole duratio
 n of the school. The result is that participants, typically at an early car
 eer stage, thanks to the school, build a rich social and professional netwo
 rk that span from junior to highly known scientists. Although ISWS features
  lectures and keynotes, most of the time is devoted to team-working with th
 e tutors for developing research. Students form teams and focus on a resear
 ch problem for which they study a solution under the methodological guidanc
 e of highly expert tutors. The program also introduces competition among st
 udents, as prizes are awarded at the end of the week.\n\n\n\nISWS is organi
 sed so that students have lots of fun during social activities and free tim
 e. They leave the school with great memories and satisfaction, and by havin
 g met many new good friends.\n\n\n\nParticipating at ISWS 2023 means to ben
 efit from formal and practical sessions as well as from informal and social
  interactions with established researchers and the other participants in th
 e school.\n\n\n\nCOVID-related ISSUES\n\n\n\nDue to COVID regulations, part
 icipants may be requested to provide proof of a COVID-19 negative test from
  the last 24 hours. COVID-safety protocols may be put in place for all part
 icipants (e.g. rapid antigenic swab before-during-after the school): detail
 s will follow if appropriate.\n\n\n\nHOW TO APPLY\n\n\n\nWe welcome applica
 nts from anywhere in the world. Normally, but not exclusively, applicants w
 ill be early stage PhD students, post graduate students/practitioners, mast
 er students and junior post doc researchers in relevant disciplines with so
 me knowledge of semantic and web technologies. Some basic acquaintance with
  knowledge representation languages for the Semantic Web (RDF, OWL, etc.) i
 s required.\n\n\n\nThe deadline for applications is March 30th, 2023. Pleas

 cepted candidates are expected to arrive on Sunday, June 11th, between 3pm 
 and 6pm and to participate fully in the activities of the school including 
 social and training activities until its conclusion, at 2pm on Saturday, Ju
 ne 17th (meaning that your return flight cannot be scheduled before 5pm). A
 pplicants should keep in mind that we will not consider applications from s
 tudents who cannot commit themselves to a full participation for the whole 
 duration of the school. Students are also required to bring and present a p
 oster at the summer school, describing their own research work.\n\n\n\nApar
 t from activities directly related to lectures, the summer school schedule 
 features a rich social programme, which enables informal interaction betwee
 n all participants in the school - i.e. students, tutors, invited speakers,
  school staff, etc. These events include a gala dinner, a party, and sport 
 activities. This year we will have a special celebration for the 20th anniv
 ersary since the first edition of the semantic web summer school. Special g
 uests and events will be announced.\n\n\n\nSTUDENT GRANTS\n\nA separate sel
 ection for grant applications will be done at a later stage, only for those
  who have already applied. We expect to provide a number of grants for stud
 ents who would not otherwise be able to attend the school. More details abo
 ut student grants will be published at a later date.\n\n\n\nVENUE AND ACCOM
 MODATION\n\n\n\nISWS 2023 will be located at the University Residential Cen
 ter located in the small medieval hilltop town of Bertinoro. This town is i
 n Emilia Romagna, about 50 km east of Bologna at an elevation of 230 m abov
 e sea level. It can easily be reached by train and taxi from Bologna.\n\n\n
 \nBertinoro is picturesque, with many narrow streets and walkways winding a
 round the central peak. Sessions of the summer school will be held in an ar
 chiepiscopal castle that has been converted by the University of Bologna in
 to a modern conference centre with computing facilities and Internet access
 . From the castle you can enjoy a beautiful vista that stretches from the T
 uscan Apennines to the Adriatic coast and the Alps over the Po Valley.\n\n\

  on https://semanticwebschool.org/\n\nThe summer school fee is 990€ and inc
 ludes school material, accommodation, meals (including the gala dinner), ex
 cursion and other social activities. It does not include travelling costs. 
 Students are recommended to book flexible flights with possibly free cancel
 lation or to buy travel insurance: in case of new COVID restrictions that w
 ill force us to cancel the school, only the reimbursement of the school fee
  (slightly reduced by administrative costs) will be guaranteed.\n\nTwo shut
 tles (at fixed times) will be organised from Bologna airport and bus statio
 n to the school, and one shuttle will bring you back from the school to the
  Forli train station, the last day.
